A portion of Interstate 10 between Tucson and Benson will be closed on the evening of March 8 in order to remove a bridge, according to The Arizona Department of Transportation.
Both directions of the highway will be closed while workers take down the old Pantano Union Pacific Railroad Bridge and drivers will be rerouted on a 67-mile detour on State Route 83 and State Route 90, ADOT said. This can set travel plans back up to two hours.
According to ADOT, the bridge sits too low over the freeway to allow for most modern semi-trucks to pass underneath it.
The construction is expected to last until 6 a.m. on March 9, with traffic congestion lasting well into the night.
