According to witnesses, a semi traveling eastbound rear-ended a pickup truck, then crossed into westbound traffic and struck another semi, said Arizona Department of Safety spokesman Carrick Cook.
Fire personnel and ADOT crews responded to the crash, which occurred about 12 miles west of Salome Road near milepost 69.
The crash shut down both westbound and eastbound lanes around 2:45 p.m. As of 4 p.m., one eastbound lane has been reopened, but westbound lanes remain closed.
Officials have not announced when the lanes will reopen.
