4-vehicle crash closes eastbound I-10 in Phoenix

07/18/13 - A four-vehicle collision Thursday afternoon in Phoenix has shut down Interstate 10 eastbound near 40th Street, the Arizona Department of Public Safety reported.

DPS spokesman Carrick Cook said one vehicle rolled over in the 4 p.m. crash. At least one injury was quite serious.

Cook said eastbound traffic is being taken off at 40th Street.

Traffic is backed up about two miles on eastbound I-10 where I-10 and I-17 meet, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Vehicles also were slowing on the westbound lanes at the Broadway curve due to curious drivers looking at the wreck, said Doug Pacey, ADOT spokesman.

Pacey advises that people who work downtown use Loop 202 to get home to the East Valley.
“The 10 is closed,” he said. “It’s a big mess there.”
