Watermelon spill in I-10 tunnel causes major backup

07/11/13 - A watermelon spill on Interstate 10 has caused major delays Thursday afternoon in Phoenix.

A collision around 1:30 p.m. involving a produce truck crashing into a wall resulted in the westbound lanes in the Deck Park Tunnel to be covered in watermelon, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

All lanes were closed shortly after 2 p.m. at 7th Street with traffic backed up to 32nd Street, ADOT said.

The highway is planned to reopen around 7:30 p.m., according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Drivers are advised to use Interstate 17 during rush hour to avoid the closure.
