UPDATE: Fatal semi rollover closes I-10 near Tucson

08/11/14 - At least one person is dead after a semi truck rolled over on Interstate 10 near Tucson around 3:45 a.m. Monday, officials said.

The two-vehicle crash in the eastbound lanes forced the closure of I-10 at Kolb Road in both directions, Arizona Department of Transportation officials said.

One westbound lane reopened at Rita Road at about 6:15 a.m., but the rest of the freeway remains closed, officials said.

There is no estimate as to when the road will completely reopen.

UPDATE: ------------------

Traffic is moving again on Interstate 10 where the highway was closed in both directions on Tucson's southeastern outskirts because of a fatal collision involving two vehicles.

Rural Metro Fire Department assistant fire chief Mike Schwartz says two people died in the Monday morning accident, which involved a tractor-trailer rig and an SUV.

The Arizona Department of Transportation says westbound lanes have been fully reopened and that eastbound traffic is using the shoulder to get past the site of the accident.

An ADOT spokesman says there was about a two-mile backup of eastbound traffic shortly before 9 a.m. MST.
