Eastbound I-10 reopens after fatal wreck Sunday night

07/13/15 - A 54-year-old man was killed after an SUV rear-ended his car and forced the man's vehicle into the back of a flatbed tow truck, forcing authorities to close Interstate 10 in Phoenix Sunday night.

The wreck occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m. Sunday in the eastbound lanes of I-10 near 19th Avenue. The highway was reopened by 6 a.m. Monday following an extended closure.

Investigators said the SUV that triggered the collision was speeding at the time and the driver, a 41-year-old man, was not injured.

The tow truck was stopped at the time of the wreck to pick up a rental park that had broken down earlier in the evening, according to an Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman.
