3 dead following wrong-way collision on Interstate 10 near Tonopah

06/20: Two women were killed when a man driving the wrong way on Interstate 10 struck their car head-on Friday night near Tonopah, according to the Department of Public Safety. The man also died. A third person in the car that was hit was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
At about 8:45 p.m., DPS troopers responded to reports of a collision on I-10 near milepost 92. Witnesses reported seeing a silver  car drive away at, they estimated, more than 100 mph. At 9:30 p.m., the DPS received calls of a driver heading east in the westbound lanes of I-10 at milepost 94. A short time later, they received calls reporting a head-on collision in the same area.
Troopers on scene confirmed the wrong-way vehicle was the same silver car seen fleeing the earlier collision. DPS troopers reported they believe the driver was impaired. The highway was shut down for five hours following the crash.

The DPS has not yet released the names of the individuals who died.
